Beat the Heat with These Summer Travel Tips

Hello, sunshine! Summer is the perfect time to make plans around barbecue potlucks, chilled sangria, and outdoor adventures. This time of year requires a whole different uniform than winter, leaving you with more space in your suitcase.

Whether you’re lounging on a golden coast or in a sea of wildflowers near your favorite Club Wyndham resort, these summer travel tips will help you stay safe and prepared as temperatures climb.

Hydration Is Key

You’ll have plenty of daylight to be active outdoors, but staying hydrating can slip your mind. Be aware of how much water you drink, especially if you’re visiting somewhere dry like Arizona or California.

Keep a water bottle with you to refill and keep track of how much you’re drinking. Look for double-wall insulated stainless steel water bottles that can keep your drink cool for up to 12 hours. For more flavor and an extra boost of antioxidants, squeeze half a lemon into your water.

Pack with Purpose

Sure, without heavy coats, sweaters, and boots you’ll have more room in your suitcase for souvenirs. But depending on where you go, you could still be caught off-guard by temperatures that drop once the sun sets or unpredictable summer rain showers. Travel prepared by packing the following:

  • Light sweater, jacket, or cardigan
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Umbrella
  • A pair of thick socks
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Sunglasses
  • A first-aid kit that includes aloe vera, bandages, lip balm with SPF, seasonal allergy medication, baby wipes, alcohol wipes, gauze, mini LED flashlight, anti-itch cream, and tweezers
Protect Your Skin

If your destination involves a beach, be aware that the sun’s rays are intensified when reflected off of the sand and water. Wear light, breathable fabrics like cotton and get sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30. Reapply every other hour and after swimming.
