Washington, D.C. 3-Day Itinerary

Get your bucket list on in Washington, D.C. Nothing beats the nation’s capital when it comes to museums, memorials, monuments, and history. Next time you plan a weekend getaway, use this itinerary to help plan your vacation. It’s that simple.

Day 1: National Mall & Georgetown

Morning
Before a day filled with sightseeing, you’ll want to fill up with breakfast at Unconventional Diner. Reservations are strongly encouraged, but takeout is available as well.

Afternoon
Head to the National Mall to walk among iconic memorials and monuments including the National World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial.

Evening
End your day exploring the historic Georgetown neighborhood. The cobblestone sidewalks are lined with small shops and tasty restaurants. Waterfront dining is a must, and you’ll have plenty of options including Fiola Mare, Sequoia, Tony and Joe’s Seafood Place, and Nick’s Riverside Grill.

Day 2: Woodley Park & National Harbor

Morning
Head to the northwest suburb of Woodley Park for one of Washington, D.C.’s top brunch spots, Open City. Locals love the stuffed French toast and fried chicken and waffles.

Afternoon
Enjoy an afternoon stroll through a garden at nearby U.S. National Arboretum or Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens.

Evening
Journey across the Potomac River for an evening at National Harbor. Grab your camera and awe at the panoramic views from The Capital Wheel. You’ll have plenty of options for dinner from fast-casual to sit-down restaurants.

Day 3: Potomac & Capitol Riverfront

Morning
Spend the morning out on the water and rent a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard from Key Bridge Boathouse. Paddle down the Potomac River and take in the views of Theodore Roosevelt Island.

Afternoon
Spend the afternoon relaxing at Yards Park or exploring the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. Stop by Due South for an outdoor lunch of delicious home-smoked barbecue or regional classics like shrimps and grits.

Evening
End your trip with a meal at a true Washington, D.C. institution, Old Ebbitt Grill. Although its known for a selection of expertly shucked oysters, there is more than just seafood on the menu, including steaks, salads, burgers, and sandwiches.
